No evidence of less of a support need
I disagree with this point based on personal experience. After a long career in high tech I've been working only intermittent contracts for the past couple of years. For me this year is the worst since leaving full time employment in 2001. What HAS taken a lot of my time is helping friends and family keep their systems running. Degunking windows, tuning Linux systems, removing spyware, etc. There is a large mass of people out there who need very basic assistance to keep their systems working.

I'm sure I'm under the radar in terms of unemployment and underemployment figures. Never filed for unemployment but barely making the mortgage let alone health insurance etc.
