I'VE BEEN TELLING MY STUDENTS THIS FOR TWO YEARS
I'm not going to lie to them and mince words, I've been telling them that the IT industry is on a downward slide, if they can tough it out and survive then they can probably make it okay, but to have a backup plan in place in case they can't find work. Most IT jobs start at the ground level with tech support (where I started), but now you can't get into tech support unless you want to hop a plane to India and make $2,000 a year....it's very discouraging for IT grads to head out to a marketplace that looks at you as a liability and not an asset and the moment you're hired on you have to watch your back because your job might be the one cut or moved overseas for the sake of saving money. If you can carve a niche and fill a need in the market, great, but if you can't then you might as well be using your degree for a placemat on your dinner table.
