Of course it's that bad
Especially here in Florida. I've been looking for work for over a year now and I've had maybe 5% of the companies I apply to even bother to call me. Bear in mind that these are entry-level support jobs that I apply for.

The IT job market is completely pathetic, and if you think it's bad for experienced people, just imagine how hard it is to break into the IT field right now! Evidently I'm not qualified enough for even the lowliest helpdesk job despite my A.S. degree and volunteer experience, but some Indian with zero experience at all easily gets the job over there because they work for peanuts and it's cheaper to send the jobs to Bangalore or wherever than keep 'em.
