I highly doubt that..
Who would want to use such a search engine.. one that does not retrieve the most relevant results, but only retrieves what advertisers paid for (relevant or not as the case may be)?

Search is such a basic need on the Internet that I predict there will always be a free search service that provides true, relevant results.

As I said, I have no problem with companies recouping their costs / making a profit from search.. as long as it's not obtrusive to the user. Text ads are fine, banners I can live with.. but:
pop up ads
pop under ads
flash ads

are going too far (I especially hate the latter.. they cover up the content you're trying to look at, and there's nothing you can do until they disappear.. ).. and, in that case.. consumers have two choices:
a) stop using the website
b) take counter-measures against the ads..
