not SP2 but Spyware

With the final release of the service pack 2 the most problems which are being experianced have do do with spyware or malware being on the systems. as your post is dated august 18th 2004 and the offical release of the SP2 was not untill Aug 25th. I find it inappropriate you comment on Microsofts decision to release the product (as at that time it was not offical). Also the Winsrv error message you recieved had a determined cause as of Aug 31st to be TV Media a peice of spyware installed on peoples system which prevents the SP from updating properly also a public article became available for that error on Aug 31st (885523). Also it is clear that if the SP installation has only taken 20min that it was not fully installed as on ava\erage it take 30min to 1 hour to install. which is what would have cause the other error 0x00000071 cause by mismatched files and registry entries. Microsoft gives a message before the installation to "turn off all running programs" as well as "back up your system". Microsoft has gone through many tests with legitamate programs and given the ca\hance for the manufacturers of such programs to create updates to make them work with the SP2 if neccesary. Microsoft has not however effectively run testing of the SP2 installation on systems which are infected by spyware and malware as they are not made avalable by the manufacturers for testing or something people wish to have installed on their systems.

Therefore system which crash after the installation of the service pack 2 have probably had some kind of spyware or virus on them either previously or currently which change the files or registry entried the SP2 tries to update. The original issue is not he SP2 but the infection on the customers computer at time of install.
