Ahh
Your telling me how life is in the IT world? Trust me, I know all too well. I deal with the desktop department all of the time (more then I'd like too) They have policies that just... tick me off. We developed a .net app that used an update feature that pretty much mimicked the windows update feature. We decided this was much easier for the user, everytime the program opened it would send a request (in BITS, not even bytes) and they said no because it would clog up network traffic in the morning. No, thats not true. They just wanted control over the app, as usual. We had to go through the usual SMS package installer that just... for lack of a better word, sucks for small things like that. Personally, I'm all for users being able to change their desktop and background pictures. Some of you are all for this draconian "terminal" like computer, but I'm not. And to be completely honest, I don't think the desktop crew has the staff to do every software install, data center support, and maintain batch. So once in a while a user screws up his computer, you reimage it, and you go on with your life. They can personalize their computer, and maybe even (god forbid I know) choose their own screen saver!
