Modified OS won't make a difference
It won't make much of a difference if Microsoft includes or excludes windows media player because of the different websites that use different file formats and incompatibilities between programs. I usually end up having to install quicktime and realplayer anyway to watch video clips. Quicktime format, Realplayer format, WMP format. Either way all 3 will get installed on people's desktops.
