Intellectual Property infringement????
At the time, Microsoft did not comment on the legality of the action, but analysts noted that the action might well be infringing on Microsoft's intellectual-property rights.

This is just plain silly! How on earth do you infringe on intellectual property? Only Windows XP user can make use of this service pack. So it's not like Linux user will download it and make use of it. Everyone who could download SP2 is legitimately in thier right to do so.

I hate it when they try to spin things into unplausible stories to attempt to make it into something it's not. Yeah Microsoft has reason to be upset. Where are the check sums? That's right Microsoft didn't release any because they had no hand in distributing this on P2P service. That's a pain but it sure isn't infringing on any copyright or patent.
