Competitive advantage
I just had lunch with Mike, and I must say, the guy has never been more on top of his game. Before the hor's doerves had even arrived, he pointed his finger at me and said "nice move!". "What?", I asked. He told me that despite our great working rapport, the release of an update blocking tool was the best example of a proactive customer relationship he'd seen in a while.

I didn't understand until he related how he saw it as a huge competitive advantage. His MSCEs had already installed SP2 on every workstation in order to provide the pinnacle of security on the corporate network. The point being, other large companies now have the ability to dilly-dally about doing it. Whereas before, their savvy users would have done their own upgrades, lessening the chance of infection of all machines. Aha - I realized that Mike saw a competitive advantage in the potential misfortune of others who move too slowly. And it all coalesced into the realization that when you have the right partner, they'll do whatever it takes to make you successful. Mike takes solace in that fact and is expecting another moment of office bliss when his network withstands what brings others down. All hail the update blocking tool! It paid for my lunch today.
