There are too many jobs being outsourced by either being sent outside the US, or companies getting rid of their own IT staffs (or portions of them) and outsourcing to other companies to provide support. I happen to be one of the later. US companies are getting off cheaper by not having a dedicated IT staff. They outsource to overseas companies for Help Desk and programming support, and to IT service providing companies in the US for the local tech work. There is no job security any more. US tech outsourcing companies pay less, work you harder, don't offer the same perks such as company provided vehicles or decent benefits packages, etc. Kids these days here about that from the people around them, their parents and friends of the parents, and from the news telling about all the cutbacks and outsourcing. Why would any of them want to enter such a scary, dead-end looking field? I know I have been telling high school and college age kids to go for something other than a tech field. I've been in the tech field for almost 20 years, and I make pretty good pay by today's tech pay standards, but every time I turn around I hear about someone else just starting out that's making either close to what I am just starting out, or they make more. I think at this point the garbage men make more than your average techs. What's the incentive to go into a field like that?
