I hear ya about the 100+ applicants
It's crazy these days. The job I applied for had over 100 applicant for a back water city barely big enough to be called a city.

When I got my Pink Slip I end up moving 1000 miles to that small city to get the job. Pays a lot less but living expense are lot less too. Actually bought a house for $78,000. Sure beats paying $300,000 for same in the big city.

I did the training thing too in between jobs took some courses that EI paid for. Turned out to my advantage keeping me up with fresh skills.

I guess in the end I'm pretty lucky. Didn't like the idea of complete career change again for the 3rd time.
