Who was here first? windows of course
i am currently using a free linux disro called mepis... there are pleanty of free disros like ubuntu, debian, slackware, etc *(not meaning to advertise)* and i personally love linux.. but i can truely see why people love ms and will continue using it... for some time.. the main reason why people have been and will continue to use windows.. its not because of the grafical interface.. because linux does look somewhat like windows when you install it. surf the web, load up wall papers much as im used to ms it is quite simalar.... but.. BUT... the biggest reason why i think ms is still around and will be for quite some time is because it is widely used.. it was basically the first os around... so now that they have all these exe files set up and programmers used to programming for windows do u think they switch to linux? why they hell would they?! in windows u double click on an exe and it auto macically installs.. that in itself lets the new user download and install viruses.. accidental but ofcousre it always happens even to the most computer savy users.. it is also more likely to get a virus because like i said before it was the first one on the scene.. more people use it therefore there is more of a reason to make a virus for it, linux isnt widely used, yet, so there are surrently alot less of the linux viruses, plus in linux it is indeed much harder to install programs.. that is the ABSOLUTE, MAIN reason why i'm am going to reformat my hard drive and install ms xp ,however, there is a distro of linux that is supposed to be as easy to install programs on it as ms is... though that particucular linux disro cost's money.. about $50 but i will not be spending that much on linux in the near future when i can go on ebay and buy a legitimate windows xp upgrade cd for $60 (ive done that).... maybe eventually u will see ms falling in its own greed as companys like emachines (i think i seen the linux emachines in best buy) sell computers with linux already installed.. hopefully it will be a change for the best.. through my only fear is that when more people start using linux more viruses will pop up.. it is an endless cycle.. no matter what, people will always be getting stuff for free and making viruses/spyware.. leagal or not.. usually when i am satisfied with a free program i will give a donation for like $10 or somehting but there will always be people that have alot of greed and will try to steal for a product or overcharge for one... when something suddenly gets cheap there is always a "well i guess u got what you payed for" saying but there wouldnt if there would just be a fiar price. alot ,if not most linux distros run on donations only.. there are some who would like to make a couple bucks off of it and do.. but if i "got what i payed for" when i donated $10 to this linux distro then when will microsoft come out for $10? or even $20? i would inspect a full version because i am fully networked within my house with many windows computers on the network.. and i am running up to 10 programs at one time with my computer... the ONLY problem i see with linux is the fact that it is a pain to install new programs and the fact windows was here first and people that tryed linux a long time ago dont know what it is like now..
