Well, that's the challenge, isn't it? Open Source usually involves modifying what was originally a proprietary invention that someone willfully gives away for free. But what successful enterprise software company in its right mind will give away its code?

Having said that, it could be done. The problem, of course, is that enterprise apps are pretty boring to work on the for the most part. Unlike OSes or databases, where there's a certain intellectual challenge with making the product better, enterprise app coding is dreary stuff -- the only someone would do it is if they were getting paid, lol.
