Linux folk only think they are fighting
No one else is interested in the fight. The desktop OS platform has been assigned to Windows since the long lines formed at midnight to buy a copy of Win95. Nothing is going to change if/when linux ever musters a useful edition of the "me too" kind of product that they seem to be striving for. IF/when they get the real office stuff, namely Exchange and Word/Excel macroed forms, working correctly and manage to add the game playing and other entertainment features that seem to crop up daily, they will still be merely a Windows clone kind of product with no real appeal to anyone beyond some potential price savings. Where is the choice in that?

Windows costs the OEM about $50. How much is the OEM ever going to save by switching? If there is no money given to the hordes of developers needed to maintain a platform product like Windows, how many are going to stay the course for the joy of it all alone? Linux is a house of cards and only exists because it is different from Windows. Once it is the same, how long can it last?
