- What is the cause of job growth - war?
-
How many of the "new jobs" are security people at airports, train stations, ports, public events, large corporate buildings and government installations? How many are military or military support? How many are defense industry?
Every war has resulted in increased employment and statistically new jobs created as well as a reduction in population so there were fewer people to need jobs. Result lower unemployment. Those unemployment statistics only really measure poeple receiving benefits. Why do you think Bush has refused to expand the number of weeks of eligibility? Eligibility has been expanded in the past when unemployment reached these levels. But Bush wants to be re-elected more than help people who have worked hard for years and just need time to change direction.
I have lost an IT management job once already in my career to "offshore" although that time it was within the corporation that had "expanded" to Malaysia. It is about to happen to me again due to outsourcing this time to India. I understand the economics of the decision for the company, but agree with one of the other comments that it is short-sighted for many companies. Who will be running the companies in the future?
Bush obviously has some intelligence since when his tax cut did not really jump start the economy, he started a war which did. Just take a look at the timing of the job growth.
As a Vietnam era Vet who was a US Marine Cobol programmer, I can tell you I would rather have a civilian job. But instead of cry about the loss of jobs to offshore companies, just maybe we should figure out how to do it better and cheaper.
I have worked with the Indian IT people and they do not hurry to get off work at 5 or think that weekend work is an imposition on "their" time. They care about getting the job done and doing it right the first time. Look around you and maybe even look at yourself before blaming the company, government or anyone else for outsourcing. There was a reason why Indian companies were able to come in and win the outsourcing jobs. - Posted by: sandra.oliphant@...
