- I agree with your overall assessment of the economy, but I disagree that just as many people are employed now as they were under Clinton. I've looked at the BLS stats, and we're at a bit less than 1 million fewer jobs than we had under Clinton. The high point, when we achieved the highest level of jobs so far, was in March, 2001, just a couple months after Bush took office. After that, we consistently lost jobs month after month, until August, 2003, at which point we had lost 2.7 million jobs. We've been in positive job growth territory ever since, which, compared to what was happening between 2001 and 2003, is a darned good thing! We now have about 1.2 million fewer jobs than we had in March, 2001, so we have a ways to go.
