Cure for cancer is not profitable
Treating the symptoms of Cancer and keeping you alive on drug cocktails is very profitable.

Research is rarely profitable it's innovation derived from research that is the best.

Interesting about you experience with people with degrees. A friend of mine once said people with degrees get degrees because they can't get jobs. Might as well stay in school and try job hunting next year. Then suddenly they have a PHD and $200,000 in student loan debt. I know a few people like this, student loan roadies we called them.
