Good point Ax on who will make the money at the time of issue
However the market is not the same as it was then. Growth is slower and an IPO at $100.00 plus a share where is the growth opportunity "short term" for "little guys" like you and me. Having read the prospectus from Google I am not so sure now that Google is that strong of a buy. (See my post above).

I think there is a lingering stigma on tech stocks from the boom to bust days. I think investors (individual investors) have swung to the other extreme of not snapping up tech stocks. Lets face it love/hate MS or Yahoo those are some giant competitors to contend with. Both have options available to them that Google does not enjoy such as preplacement on the desktop and in the browser.
