"The record labels would never accept MP3
unprotected so Apple chose AAC + fairplay which i consider to be very fair since I can burn CDs for friends legally. "

Virgin Mega (Universal) IS a record label and a pretty big one. So saying that "they" (third person plural), isn't quite correct.

I don't see the problem myself, Apple's DRM has been well and truely broken. Even without Hymn (as its now called) Apple themselves built in a bypass mechanism.

So it's not protected now, well, OK, if you cover your eyes with blinkers and says nah nah nah to block out sounds you can maybe believe it is.

So Virgin could go for AAC, or MP3 VBR or the new high quality WMA, or the older WMA-DRM or OGG or whatever, and it would be the same as the reality of iTunes now.

Every day they don't sell is a day of lost sales.
So while they're worrying about any possible loss of sales without DRM, they are losing sales because of it.....
