According to the press, the lawyers get 20% of any license income as well. Microsoft and Sun have already committed to $13 million between them, which would yield $1.2 million to Boise and company irrespective of outcome. The notion that SCO must prevail for the lawyers to benefit is not as well established as your post would imply.

It may be, however, that SCO is well served by strong legal advice. Note that none of the license income to date has been derived through use of the U.S. Postal Service.
