Not unfair...stop the FUD
This represents no advantage to Sun over any other of the app server makers. They all work together on the spec, Sun has no lead time over BEA, IBM, etc. For that matter, not even much lead over the general public. Drafts of the spec are published for review.

As far as the economics of the pricing model, this does not represent a new blow against BEA, IBM, or other app server makers. In fact, it's more reactive than anything. JBoss has long had a free J2EE implementation, though not officially certified. The economics of the situation really don't change much by this move. App server makers have been selling based on quality, services, and such, rather than the core implementation, for some time now.
