Proving once again...
...why Sun is the massively profitable company it currently is (umm...). Seriously, Sun's inability to make serious profit from Java is a real Achilles heel in its competition with .NET. Granted, they seem to be succeeding in convincing the majors to use Java on smartphones, but smartphones are a nascent market, and to say that Microsoft and .NET won't make a credible showing in that market is like saying PocketPC wouldn't make credible gains against Palm. With the Palm battle, though, Microsoft went up against an entrenched and established competitor. That doesn't apply in smartphones, and if history is any guide, few companies are as stubborn as Microsoft. I wouldn't bet against them making a credible showing in that space (and I've used both Stinger and Symbian phones, and take it with a grain of salt, but the Stinger phone has things to recommend it).

So, the quest to find ways for Sun, the owner of Java technology, to make money from Java technology is still ongoing.
