It seems to me that ?
? the job of a President is not to use the language in a way which obfuscates what he is trying to say, but elucidates his point. The great orators did not strain to Yogi Berra their points, but put it in straight language: ?Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.?

What I find humorous is that you were successful in your efforts to explain the meaning of ?misunderestimated? to me. While I will not admit that forcing such mental calisthenics onto the listeners of a presidential speech is appropriate, will submit that you may call me thickheaded. (It wouldn?t be the first time I?ve admitted to it and it probably won?t be the last.)

Except for one area, the rest of your post was also thoughtful and quite appropriate. Where you strayed was characterizing me as a mindless Bush-basher.

I?m not. Nor am I really a Kerry supporter. My loathing for the man in the Oval Office is based in parallels that I see between my experiences during the Vietnam War and the current Iraq War: we have gone to war without a clear plan for what we mean to do and what happens when the shooting stops. What is the exit strategy? (G.W.?s dad, in his own book, said he didn?t continue with the Gulf War because of that problem.)

If my 16-year-old son, upon graduation two years from now, is forced into the military because G.W. can?t find a way out and must reinstitute the draft. And if I lose him over there because this Texas clown is more interested in trying to bully the rest of the world with his ?bring ?em on? inane comments, you people who voted for him will have a lot more to answer for.
