- Don't get me wrong, I love Linux and would love to see microsoft "byte" the dust but I think the previous post is a little to "enthusiastic". Linux is still quite young, although not much younger than windows, it requires some maturing before it is a viable competitor in the desktop market, where ignorance of the user fuels microsoft in this sector. Linux will have to either educate the masses about the use of linux or mutate linux into the user friendly blob that windows is; but, if this is done, then is it linux or just another windows? Take the first alternative and you preserve linux take the second and you might as well use windows. X11 is an example of this user-friendly transformation but its good because it still preserves the linux foundation and it doesn't have the goo of windows gui. As more and more people jump onto the tech train, more advanced users will turn to linux and, if something is not done, more ignorant users will be further left in the dark. This seems to be a continuation of the effort to enlighten the users that are in the dark and I hope it continues on the right path of preserving linux in the process.
