It sounds like people here have never heard of LiveCds. There are many here but for forensics there is already Penguin Sleuth http://www.linux-forensics.com/. I don't think the concern here was for another tool to not write to the HardDrive but for a LiveCd that made it impossible to write to the Hardrive. Afterall what's to keep someone from using a LiveCD and "planting" evidence. This new tool would make that impossible and allow for quick recovery or reading of images (and hopefully all media)

BTW one can make Windows LiveCds (see BartsPE for example) Though these can read and write to the hardrive. Great for some recovery work but not for forensics and investigations.
