RE: IBM, allies to offer open-source PCs in Eastern Europe
"Brilliant idea. What good is a PC with Windows on it? This will only put Austria and Poland ahead of the curve. In fact, it will set an example to the rest of the world and show everyone what they should be using. They will be much better off not being sheep and using the same rubbish that everyone else in the world is using and thankfully linux/opensource apps are generally so compatible that exchange information without the need for looking for specific applications and programs will make life very easy for them.

Linux has proven it is extremely usable on the desktop. Installing takes about 1/2 hour, then in a lot of cases that's it, no trying to configure hardware, then looking for software, downloading, hoping you have the right versions of office to open the new .doc's you've been emailed, then having to install 3rd party software such as anti-virus and firewall just to be safe on the net. Nope, you don't need to do any of these steps.

Plus once its setup thats it! No defraging, no periodic spyware scans, no cleaning of the registry. Just way too easy, meaning you have more time to actually doing work on the pc as apposed to to the pc. It's just to much hassle to run anything but a unix on anything especially the desktop."

- Fixed for ya, now go away troll!
