The bit about ongoing breaking of EC anti-trust rules and belated somewhat token efforts to escape the consequences clearly escapes you.

Mind you, this "opening up of stuff" I think is going to backfire hugely on Microsoft. I look to them being sued more and more, and a number of the patents they are "displaying" to be invalidated. Not directly tied to this, their likely rip off of that SQL stuff being the thin end of the wedge.
