EC 1, Microsoft 0 (in a binary sense).

So, what about that spanking that Microsoft gave the EC, or did you get that wrong too? Or was that No_Ax, or was it the both of you?

Other than that, I think it'd be fun to see how much Microsoft's coffers would vanish with the money they'd lose from a pullout from the EC. The greatest mistake a person or corporation can make is to think they are essential and ireplacable.

For me I think it quite likely that the patents and other stuff Microsoft have "publicly released" in this announcement might well provoke a whole raft of lawsuits and patent challenges rather than interoperability. After all, now people are able to see to some extent what Microsoft thinks it owns.

This announcement is (to me) almost as silly as Bill Gates saying he wants Yahoo's engineers. Maybe there's more to the euphemism "Microserf" than meets the eye.
