Intel owes them one
Duh... Microsoft won't release their 64-bit Windows until Intel tells them to. Because Intel has been having difficulties launching their 64-bit (read: AMD compatible) cores, readers should have no illusions about Microsoft's delays. AMD is king of the performance and technology hill right now, and Intel has to cash in on every favor, twist every arm it can to hold back the tide. That, my friends, is the way business works.
