they understand piracy just fine...
my conclusion is that the industry does nto care about stoping piracy. look at every solution they are pushing publically...
DMCA, INDUCE, suing their own customers, DRM, etal... none of these solutions really stop (or even signifigantly curb piracy). Even shutting down P2P completly wont do anything about real piracy. There is no proof that it would increase their sales... so why bother?

Shutting down P2P is not about Piracy, it's abotu distribution control. Up until recently, it was very hard for an artist to be heard, especially on a national or world level. With the Advent of P2P, it's now very easy for an artist to be indipendant and still heard.
If more and more artists realize this, the music industry is no longer needed. Their ability to milk artist for their life's work and pay them almost nothing, while raking in millions, will be at an end.
After the the music industry will either need to play fairly or go out of business... the last thing they want to do is to have to pay the artists fair compensation for being allowed to distribute their works.
