it's about the $$
The MPAA, the RIAA & the software industry all know that there is wholesale copying of "copyrighted" material in other countries.

They aren't as worried about that copying as they are about little Suzy's downloading because they know that people in those countries will never be able to pay the astronomical prices they can demand for their products in America.

In America if little Suzy whines loud enough and long enough Suzy's mom will pay what ever price the RIAA demands to satisfy Suzy's demand for the latest "one hit wonders" got-to-have-it albumn.

The reason for this is the same as the reason Microsoft is considering selling "bundled OS & Office" packages overseas at a fraction of the American price and pharmaceutical companies sell "generic drugs" overseas for less than the same drug sells for here. The rest of the world can't, won't pay the high prices we will, therefore we pay for the programing, the research, the design costs and the rest of the world gets the same products for "production costs".

Short of a law demanding that American companies sell products to Americans at a comparable price to what they sell those same products overseas, this will not change. And even if such a law was passed it wouldn't lower our costs it would only further expand the trade deficit by reducing our exports. Someone has to pay the million dollar salaries of entertainers, someone has to cover the cost of R&D and only we, the Americans, can afford it.
