True. This has already come to light. The RIAA and the big 5 have already been applying pressure to online music stores in an effort to change the pricing model.

While it does get less expensive to produce any hardware over time, making a direct comparison between an off-the-shelf 733 PC and a DVD player isn't quite accurate. When dealing with something like a PS2, XBox, iPod, whatever, there are a ton of proprietary parts in there. Anything proprietary that's not made in mass (at least not the same mass as most standard componenets used in a typical DVD player) is going to increase the cost to manufacturer the item.... beyond that, the PS2 and XBox have been $150 for some time now, and I believe MS is still losing money on their console... not sure about Sony.
