It's quite simple really
They will sue because:

1. DMCA If I am not allowed to break Apple's proprietary security would should RealNetwork be allowed to?

2. It is the nature of Apple. Anyone who gets to close to it's design's they sue. They have threatened to sue of OSX themes, i-Mac look a likes etc.

3. It is irrelevant to compare computer hardware to the automotive industry for obvious reasons. But if you must try to make the comparison then I must show where it is flawed. First you can put a Mercedes motor in a Yugo but the Yugo company can?t break Mercedes engine design specs and install there own into a Mercedes.
