not expensing stock options
Microsoft is not expensing it's stock options. I'm frankly amazed that this whole hasn't been plugged yet in US law. After all it was a while ago that the Enron scandal broke.
There has been plenty of time to put in a nice gradual change to rectify this huge flaw. But nothing's been done.
Not just on a US basis, but internally to MS, they could have just started accounting for stock sales differently.
In this light the planned repurchase of $32 billion of stock seems to be a way of shoring up stock prices through a period when unearned income will drop through the floor.
Check out billparish.com for more about the Microsoft "pyramid scheme". (By the way, cisco, oracle etc all work in the same way as far as I can tell, so it's not just a Microsoft thing, but this article is about MS).
