As the primary specification for ODF is that it is to be readable in 50 years, I hope
one excuses that I don't blanche with embarrassment at the above omissions. As
the whole ECMA/ISO submission has been about keeping Office sellable to
governments, the above features seem irrelevant, and in fact, likely to lead to
abuses that defeat the concept of open government for all the people.

Let me be clear. A standard doesn't mean it does everything for everybody. It
means that a particular use case is addressed in a way so that any vendor may
build a utilization market. Has OOXML been about anything except selling more
Office 2007 licenses?

So, Microsoft and friends are telling me that this is being done for my good. Now I
am blanching with embarrassment.
