LCD's SUCK
LCD's suck. People buy them because they're thin. And the only technical reasons to own one are: near-perfect geometry and better sharpness. Other than that, these are the reasons to avoid them:

1. Inaccurate colors

2. Terrible viewing angles

3. One fixed native resolution

4. Coarse looking (pixels are spread apart enough to see the black dead space)

5. Inadequate response time, especially for games

6. Considerably more expensive than CRTs

7. Large LCDs, 17 and 19 inch, use the very bizarre 5:4 aspect ratio, which means the LCD will be longer (appearing more square) than the wider, standard 4:3 ratio (closet being 1280x960)

8. Inappropriate for business and casual use. Based on my estimates: 8 out of 10 LCD's are viewed at lower than native resolution, which defeats the main purpose of owning one (this reinforces the fact that most buy them due to ergos). Typically, a 15" LCD with a native resolution of 1024x768 will be reduced to 800x600, and a 1280x1024 to 1024x768. Then of course, the "stretch" feature, with all of its side effects will kick in and give the user the larger fonts/windows they desire.

I can tell you all kinds of stories, especially in governments and business where expensive LCDs are used, but they all lower the resolution. The LCD mfg's and dumb reviewers are to blame for pushing, "higher resolution means better". And all the while we must hear from the whinny, few power-users, "increase your font and window sizes in display properties dude". That only works for MS Office and IE and a few other elite$, but not for the rest of the application world. Any professional developer will tell you how time consuming it is to code your UIs this way. Consider doubling the time, at least.
