This would make it easier to transition to Sun Hardware.
But, for any new instalation of Solaris, you would want to use AMD or Sparc hardware. And, are they going to get Oracle, BEA, and everybody else to offer versions for the other processors??? Well, that said, Solaris will likely be the last proprietary version of Unix left standing. Not sure if that will be good for Sun though, they need to wean themselves from Solaris sooner or later.
