If McNeally wants to turn the company around, he should align with Intel for the high end, big iron segment of his business. Power is IBM proprietary.

In this way, he will have most of his bases covered. AMD64 for the small shop, "give away" server he discusses on BusinessWeek and Itanium for the serious workload.
