Other ways to simplification
While your example is intriguing, I'll believe it when I see it from
MS. They (at least so far) seem to have a way of making things
more complicated than they need to be. One example would be
adding or deleting programs, and all the nonsense of the
registry (compare to dragging a program to the trash on a Mac).

I also question MS's ability to get here because of their "all
things to all people" mentality. It's served them very well as far
as selling their OS and Office software. But I see these sorts of
"invisible" gadgets as being smaller, more specialized devices.
They'll be cheaper, and more efficient and do one thing
extremely well. I guess theoretically one could link them all
through the "digital hub" that Jobs has been pushing for years,
but then that adds a further layer of complexity, a further chance
for failure and a further chance for confusion.

Kind of like comparing an iPod to a media center PC.
