Java is not dead (but you might be out of touch with reality)
You obviously have very little experience with Linus development so you don't seem to be on the same page with reality.

From my experience: Mono is an early beta with not nearly enough support for the namespaces commonly used for development. Forget about Windows.Forms on Mono, it is not there. Instead there is a GTK# hack that is not source compatible with Windows.Forms. I do not care if MS wrote Windows.Forms and thus some Linux people consider that 'tainted', I need one source, all platforms for Mono to be a valid development tool, that is my only problem with Mono so far. Java is still the only valid development tool if you want cross platform abilities.

As far as Java is concerned, it is far from dead. To think otherwise would be a critical mistake on your part. I doubt that even Gates or Ballmer would say in public that Java is dead (or even near death). Java developers tend to come from a different background than Visual Basic developers so perhaps that is why you think that they have all died, you have no exposure to them.

I doubt that Linux will ever over take the Windows market, but Linux is a great OS and I use it every day. People that say one OS is better than the other for all things are idiots. MS has the best development tools; no contest. The Linux tools can only mimic what MS has practically given to me. For a file and print (and some application) servers Linux runs circles around MS. You pay through the nose for MS SQL Server and yet you get nearly the same functionality from a copy of PostgreSQL that comes with nearly every Linux distro with no licence fees other than the cost of the distro itself (SuSE Professional 9.1 cost me about $90USD)

Why don't actually try Linux before you claim that MS is superior.
