This is simply a good tactic....If you want to take on a competitor
One good tactic is too chip away at said competitor's base. There for you choose Linux rather the the competitor's offering. So to increase Linux's appeal you get the young who will sooner or later be making purchasing decisions and or recommendations involved. And at the same time create a host of young people who can use Linux in a productive manner....Chipping away at your competitors base, while at the same time building a stronger base for yourself.

Nothing unusual here.....
