The debate shouldn't be between OpenOffice.org and Microsoft's file format. That's a debate between apples and oranges - on the one hand an application program, on the other a file format.
The debate should be between FORMATS. Right now the only computer program that can manipulate OOXML formats is Microsoft Office 2007.
