- Volkswagen, OSS team on car technology
- VolksWagen got inspiration from OSS and decides to go their way. Now when you buy a volks wagen, what you get is the car body and a cart full of accessories like wheels, stearing wheel, seats, wipers etc. Ofcourse you will have options to fit a stearing wheel or a bike handle to it. Soon there would be two camps of VW users - KStearing and GHandle - who would argue with eachother for hours and hours trying to state that theirs is better, but will never come to a conclusion. All seats except the drives seat could be stretched like a bed if you want, wheels could be turned to square shape after parking, so that it will be difficult for a thief to steal the car. window glasses would be as hard as a steel, so noone could break it. But it will be all up to you to figure it out how to assemble the stuff. The on-board computer system will have hacked version of a DVD player, a road scanner that wont work because it doesnt have the USB drivers. Soon after buying a volks wagen people would login to slashdot or sourceforge to post their queries on how to fit these stuff and make it run. Techies would figure out the stuff soon and would be up and running with their car within few hours. But the joe user would fight for months downloading various Vpms and trying to resolve dependencies to make the damn thing work. By that time a new version of the engine would come up which would introduce new dependencies. And at the end - Go hell with VW. Let me buy that Fiat with MS Windows; Fine if I get GPF and die on the road... Its better than wasting a lifetime trying to make the the OSS VW run.
