This is a business solution
The entire idea is to store your messages OFF the public servers where anyone with half a good hacking mind could intercept your business conversations. This keeps the data on YOUR servers (business servers) and not in the public domain. Conversations are held behind your corporate firewall and not subject to eavesdropping by your competition.

This is what has kept many businesses from allowing IM into the corporate world - lack of a secure and private storage for conversations of a sensitive business nature.
