Whatever you cannot defeat
``befriend''.

That were good articles there. I new that MS was
participating in the latest POSIX efforts. Apparently they
realized that they had to do something for the UNIX/POSIX
arena.

It seems they want to provide a develoment and run-time
environment were POSIX applcations can be developed and
run. In this way they can leverage the 10,000's of free
UNIX/POSIX free appls.

The problem is that POSIX requires WELL defined kernel /
appl behavior. The current windows kernel cannot
efficiently support this functionality. The converse is true
though: a decent POSIX environment can subsume the
services of the windows kernel. But again, the spaghetti
organization of windows with applications cross connecting
to one another with very ill-defined dependencies, will not
mesh well with POSIX.

I wont be surprised if the windows kernel will be replaced
with the more serious UNIX kernels. They DID LICENSE UNIX
from SCO, didn't they?

In all fairness, they would have a chance with their current
malformed kernel. Since they are already used to innovate
with other people's intellectual work, I wouldn't be
surprised if they gut out their own and start replacing it
with a unix-like one.
