I think it's undercooked
A few responses without bothering to quote you.

1) I could run as a more restricted user, but I have to account for the occasional poorly programmed windows app. At work, our 'untrusted' users actually use their machines as 'guests'.

2)The anti virus point you keep bringing up is rediculous. If you ahve a bone to pick, pick it with Symantec which in recent years has put out increasingly crappy apps, and who tries to keep the fact that live update can easily be scheduled to run automatically a secret. Good anti virus apps allow the person who installs it to set what users can and can't do. McAfee comes to mind.

3) I knew you would bring up "shatter" attacks. While they are a glaring hole in the Windows GUI API, they require local access to a machine and certain programs to be installed. Hardly the end of the world.

4) I AM a Unix adminstrator. At work I get deal with our big ugly HPUX mainframe and and recently set up an OpenBSD box that sits in front of our mail systems. At home, all of my computers my computers sit behind a FreeBSD machine which serves as my nat router/firewall.
