ignorant, fanatic, or both?
Yes but the problem extends to third party software that
expects Admin privileges to run. Too many MCSD/ADs
continue the tradition set by their overlord and have a poor
understanding of software development and security
implications.

I've run my own computer as a "power user" for a long time. No problems for me.

Norton requires power user to install anti-virus
definition updates (you know your in trouble when a
security product require elevated privileges).

That has got to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. You know you're clueless about security when you insist that any old user should be able to modify the core settings of a program that has full control of every file on the system.

Not really a problem because the GUI layer doesn't enforce
any security at all so it is trivial to elevate your privileges
under windows regardless of the restrictions placed

I know there have been quite a few priviledge escallation exploits for Windows, but I assume by that statement, that you know about some that Microsoft doesn't? Please do share.
