What I see here.
Is a competition between an open standard and Microsoft. The
only way for Microsoft to win is to leverage windows on the
content creation side. If it's created using windows, only the
windows codec will decompress it. Now if it was as good as (or
better than) the open standard, it might have a shot. What will
cause consumer distain is the annual fee. Or should I say new
Microsoft tax? If there was a one time fee, it would not be a big
thing. It's the thought of paying for the same thing over and
over, with the constant thought of a price increase. Face it, it it
costs the provider $20 a year, it will cost the consumer $40 a
year. I'd rather see a one time fee, than a continual payment.
