- IDG Snubs NY
-
I live outside New York City and have been to every Macworld
Conference held there. Since the Mac is very prevelant in creative
industries, New York was an ideal place to hold the East Coast
conference. IDG, in its infinite wisdom, somehow failed to
recognize this and move the show to Boston. And judging by
Apple's reaction, it would appear that they did so without
consulting their largest exhibitor/keynote presenter ahead of
time.
Needless to say, I have not made the trek to Beantown to see
this farce of a show. I am sorry that this has cast a less than
positive light on Apple and the Mac Community. However this is
an unfortunate result of a poor business decision made by IDG.
They choose to ignore the Marketing 101 concept of "Location,
location, location" in order to move a highly successful show
from it's ideal home in New York to a smaller market where the
demographics were also less than optimal. This has made the
show less attractive to exhibitors and attendees -- many of the
latter happen to be located in New York.
Anyone complaining about Apple not attending should channel
their blame to the real culprit. IDG chose to move the show
away from their target audience and did so without considering
the wishes of Apple. It's no small wonder why Macworld Boston
has been a failure. I only hope IDG comes to their senses and
holds next year's show in New York. That is assuming they didn't
wreck the concept of an East Coast Macworld for good by this
year's fiasco. - Posted by: Justin Powell Posted on: 07/13/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
