Reasons for the snub
I think the main reason for Apple not showing up is the pressure
to come up with some big announcement at every one of these
meetings. Jobs is, if nothing else, a control freak, and it's
antithetical for him to allow IDG to set the schedule for Apple
product releases. If Apple did show up and didn't announce
anything new, all you'd get are negative stories in the press
about how disappointed everyone is.
